Every Saturday morning in Grahamstown (North end of main Street Thames) there is a market which has been running now for ten years. It attracts tourists and locals alike who can peruse the stalls for fresh produce, hand made craftwork and specialty food items. At the front of Sola Cafe one of the owners, Clare Rodley, sets up her weekly "cheeselovers stall". She has on display large wheels of award winning handmade New Zealand cheeses from artisan cheese producers such as Whitestone in Oamaru, Mahoe Farmhouse Cheeses in Northland, and Kingsmeade Dairy in Martinborough.
Clare also sells delicious Bread from Auckland's Pandoro Bakery and makes a range of her own pestos, and hummus. Further investigation of items sometimes available are handmade oatcakes, quince paste, manuka smoked field mushrooms, and pickled walnuts. All geat accompliments to a long sunday lunch.
